One will not only be able to save money by fixing a chipped windshield but it could save one's life. It could be a piece of gravel thrown up high by the vehicle ahead or an act of mischief by an unseen vandal. Either way, debris hitting your windshield will surely to leave a mark. A windshield chip can spread like a web causing a complete barrier of your view through the glass without any warning. Obviously, no one wants this to happen while on the road. In most cases, it is not legal to drive a vehicle if the driver's view is hindered because of chipped windshield.

The actual water seal comes from the "urethane" adhesive which is used to create the bond. Its in this urethane that the water leak is originating.
 

Park your vehicle in a garage or under a shelter. If possible, park your vehicle in an area where it will be insulated from the harsh environment. This will not only protect it from ice, but from falling limbs or other hazards this time of year.

Check with your insurance, because it's likely your insurance will pay for some forms of windshield chip repair. They may even waive the deductible, since repairing your windshield is so much cheaper than replacing a windshield. Should you need total windshield repair, you may have to pay a deductible with your insurance.

As a windshield installer for the past thirty five years, let me give you three good reasons not to repair your windshield. As windshield repair is a gimmick in my opinion.

As you drive down the road, a small piece of gravel can hit your window and leave a chip. No matter how expensive your window is, the glass is still susceptible to chips. Leaving the chip alone can cause breakage and may lead to a full window replacement instead of just having it repaired.

But the best way to fix a leak is completely removing the glass and shooting a new seal. This is the only way to truly see what is happening. If the glass is removed a technician can 100% fix the underlying issue. This option may require the purchase of a new molding. Also your auto glass company will most likely require you to purchase a new glass if the old glass breaks upon removal.
